The villa

A very unique house — both energetically and aesthetically

The house was listed on Airbnb as Magical Villa Ubud for nine years. It is no longer listed there. Bookings are now taken directly via the inquiry below.

A two-bedroom villa in the popular area of Penestanan. The spacious living room is the heart of the home, with French double doors on all sides opening onto the pool and the garden. It is open to the outdoors on every side, so the light and the greenery come right in. A modern, functional and fully equipped kitchen opens to a funky-stylish dining area.

Upstairs is the main bedroom, a king bed with its own balcony, where the sun rises over Mount Agung. Downstairs is a second bedroom with a double bed, and a bathroom with hot water and a shower. Both bedrooms have air conditioning and mosquito nets.

Outside, the private pool sits in a tropical garden with two bales for shade. There is Wi-Fi throughout and plenty of space to work for anyone staying a while.

Serene, tranquil and quiet, the house is reached on foot only — a three to five minute walk along garden paths, with no road, cars or scooters anywhere near. The caretaker of the villa meets guests at the main road and helps with luggage.

Pool and garden

The pool runs the length of the house and is exclusively yours to enjoy. The garden is lush and tropical, planted thick with heliconia, banana and frangipani, and has two open Balinese style bales — pavilions — to read, write, or meditate in.

The living room

Location

Penestanan, on foot

Penestanan sits above the Campuhan valley on the western side of Ubud. It is a neighbourhood of footpaths rather than roads, which is what makes it quiet — no motorbike noise, no traffic, and, as one guest noted, no roosters.

The villa is reached only on foot, a three-to-five minute walk from the road along garden paths. There are three separate ways in and parking within two minutes of all of them. Bicycles can be parked at the house.

On the doorstep
  • Alchemy Cafe and Alchemy Yoga 3–5 min walk
  • Intuitive Flow Yoga 3–5 min walk
  • Yellow Flower Cafe 3–5 min walk
  • Tjampuhan Hotel Spa — steam room, cold plunge, spa pools Across the road, down the steps
  • Campuhan Ridge Walk and the rice-field paths Minutes away
  • Bintang Supermarket 7–10 min walk
  • Ubud centre and the Palace 20 min walk

Guests come back for Zest, Bridges, Brie, Bella, Elephant and Tyga, and for the warungs on the path.

Honestly

Worth knowing before you book

You arrive on foot

No car or scooter reaches the door. It is a three-to-five minute walk in along garden paths, and help with luggage can be arranged. This is the reason the villa is so quiet, and most guests count it as the best thing about the place — but it does not suit anyone who needs step-free access.

The house is open to the garden

The living room is designed to be open air, and there is a gap between the glass and the ceiling. Geckos, frogs and insects come and go. Mosquito nets are over both beds. If you want a sealed, air-conditioned box, this is not it.

One bathroom

There is a single bathroom on the lower level, between the two bedrooms.

Children

Babies under one are welcome, and so are children of eight and over. The villa is not suitable for children between one and eight — the pool is unfenced, the house opens directly onto it, and there is a flight of open stairs.

Stairs

One flight of stairs leads from the living room to the upstairs bedroom.

Smoking

Permitted outside the villa only.

A charming haven that perfectly blends Balinese allure with modern comfort. The location is unbeatable — surrounded by beautiful landscapes and trendy cafes, yet peaceful and serene. The highlight, undoubtedly, is the stunning private pool.

From the moment we arrived it felt like a hidden sanctuary. The downstairs is open and bright, with big doors straight out to the pool and garden. We were working remotely and the Wi-Fi was fast and reliable.

Hard to capture the charm of this villa without seeing it in person. Spacious, filled with natural light, marble floors, a fully stocked kitchen. Returning home to the villa never lost its magic.

Magical. I love the location — so close to everything, and yet so peaceful, as there are no roads nearby. Your own private sanctuary with beautiful gardens. The view at sunrise of Mt Agung from the upstairs bedroom is beautiful.

Some places just hit the spot and you have an effortless time. This is one such place. Really tranquil, with access to some of the best Ubud has to offer on foot. Because it's off the main road down a pathway it's so quiet.

The pool is wonderful and the main living area is even better than the photos show — we loved how it opens directly onto it. Entering felt like an adventure: off the street and down steps to our own gated courtyard. Special.

Perfect for nature lovers. It's a greenhouse that opens up completely to the outside, with all the plants and thoughtful art, in a very quiet neighbourhood five minutes down a walking path. The kitchen is well equipped.

Wonderfully spacious house — and immediately, a large swimming pool, which you jump into from the living room. A very quiet, cosy corner of Ubud, all small walking paths, galleries and jungle-like greenery.

A serene, low key, wonderfully effortless experience. The floors are magnificent and have an old world feeling. Sunning yourself by the pool but just inside is something else: private, but big doors that open so you can jump straight in.

Clean, artistic, private villa in the middle of Penestanan. Centrally located between two yoga shalas and several cafes. Peaceful and quiet. You want a spacious, laid-back villa that still breathes Bali's nature? Then this is for you.
